Post-reunion update - Any news or thoughts to share?

I concur with Valerie Vickerstaff. I too am amazed at how few grads I knew well.

What have you been up to since Magee?

Spent 6 years at University, settling in on what I would do with my life. While working at the Cave Theatre Night club with Fran Dowie, changed my name to Dal. Finally in 1969 entered Seminary and was ordained United Church Minister in 1972. Settled in Manitoba on a 5 point charge, where I also taught High School Mathematics as teacher substitute. Later would move to Winnipeg to St. Andrew's River Heights as youth pastor. After 3 years accepted a posting in Prince Rupert as minister of First United, working with First Nations folk, the Thomas Crosby V (Mission Boat) and the Native Friendship Centre. While there I was elected President of the United Church for BC and as leader of the largest Protestant Church in the Province welcomed Pope John Paul II to BC. Also served as Chair of the Prince Rupert School Board. Moving to the Lower Mainland I served St. David's in West Vancouver, St Andrew's-Wesley in the downtown, St Giles at Oakridge and St. Andrew's in Maple Ridge, retiring in 2006, back to West Vancouver; only to return to work at West Vancouver United in 2008 until a new minister arrived in the summer of 2009. As Chair of the Vancouver Burrard Presbytery was involved in bringing order to First United Church in the Downtown Eastside to conform to Church, City, Provincial and Federal standards and By-laws.
Discovered an aortic aneurysm in 2001 which led to a reconstruction of the aortic root and valve replacement.
In retirement joined the JP Fell Pipe Band, and learned to play the bagpipes and now play for community events.
Still functioning as Supply Minister (when needed) am now designated as Minister Emeritus at ST. David's, been Chaplain to the Legion since 2007.

Best/worst/most memorable times at Magee

Best: Walking to and from school with buddies from the western borders of Magee's catchment area; participating in Gilbert and Sullivan's Patience; playing on the Rugby Team, which always lost; Duncan's and Ledingham's Math classes; Sutherland's English class out in the portable; Junior Achievement and Hamburgers at the Texan on Georgia afterward.
Worst: Wanting to fit in but not really knowing how.

How would you rate your time at Magee?

I was happy to move on

What are you planning for the next 50 years?

Spending time with family and grandchildren, Piping, continue annual winter get away to Mexico, help out at Fit Fellas, volunteer at West Vancouver United Church, continue as Chaplain for West Van Legion, keep our 83 year old house in repair, get my hands dirty in the garden, RV camping as much as I can fit in.

Don't usually reply to these on Magee's Log, but I remember you with such fondness: Your piano skills and happy spirit - willing to take on anything that came your way. I hope your life has been as meaningful to you as mine has been. Have a happy birthday.
